Kathie Brekke and the 42nd Street Jazz Band return to Faith Lutheran Church in Wolverton, Minn., for a second year of Christmas classics
Kathie Brekke and the 42nd Street Jazz Band return to Faith Lutheran Church in Wolverton on Sunday, Nov. 30, for a Christmas benefit concert for Churches United.
Come to Faith Lutheran Church in Wolverton, Minnesota, on Sunday, Nov. 30, for festive holiday fun as Kathie Brekke and the 42nd Street Jazz Band return for another Christmas benefit concert for Churches United!
“This is the second year we've hosted Kathie Brekke and the 42nd Street Jazz Band. Last year, they came to our church because one of our parishioners has a close connection to Kathie,” says Faith Lutheran Pastor and Churches United CEO Devlyn Brooks. “They came because they wanted to help raise money for Churches United. And the event was very popular for the more than 60 people who attended. It seems that Kathie and the band must have enjoyed themselves too because they agreed to come back again!
The event is free and open to the public, and any donations will benefit Churches United and its mission to provide safe shelter, stable housing, nutritious food, and a path toward healing.
“Whatever money that will be raised will be greatly appreciated,” Brooks said. “Churches United is a large nonprofit that serves more than 500 neighbors every single day. And so it warms my heart to know that the musicians, my church and the community all support raising money to help us shelter, house, feed and heal our neighbors from throughout our region.”
Brooks encouraged everyone to come out, listen to some Christmas favorites and spend some time enjoying each other’s company.
“Events like this help us to build community. First and foremost, church is best when it is building relationships,” Brooks said. “And a really simple way to do that is to open our doors to an evening of top-notch musical entertainment and invite the entire community. The music itself is enough of a reason to come, but then getting to attend such a festive event in a beautiful church with folks who are essentially from just down the road, well, that makes for a special night. We want the wider community to understand that being church together isn't just about gathering for an hour on Sunday mornings.”
If you’ve never been to Faith Lutheran, you’re in for a real treat, as it’s the perfect venue for classic Christmas jingles. The modern lobby area of the church ushers you into a gorgeous 1930s-era sanctuary with beautiful stained glass windows, pristine wooden pews and altars and classic Christmas decorations that Brooks says turn the church into “a Hollywood-worthy movie setting.”
While donations are appreciated, they are not required, and Brooks only has a couple of asks of attendees this year.
“Keep your focus tightly on musicians! They are amazing, and they deserve your utmost attention! In addition to that, please come and get to know our community! We're a place that takes both words in ‘faith community’ seriously!”
