Churches United CEO, Nutrition Director attend North Country Food Bank annual meeting

Churches United now places food orders for Micah's Mission kitchen and Dorothy Day Food Pantry through North Country Food Bank, which will make two deliveries per month

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. — Churches United CEO Pastor Devlyn Brooks and Nutrition Director Angela Hoepner attended the North Country Food Bank's annual meeting in October, where they met the food bank staff and other food shelves and pantries from all over northwestern Minnesota.

This was the first NCFB annual meeting for Churches United since its ties were transferred from the Great Plains Food Bank in Fargo, N.D., to North Country.

Churches United will now place its monthly bulk food orders for its Micah's Mission kitchen and the Dorothy Day Food Pantry through North Country Food Bank, which will make two deliveries per month.

Churches United will continue its "retail rescue" relationship with Great Plains, however. As part of this arrangement, Great Plains trucks pick up food and other items rescued from area retailers that might otherwise have been thrown and delivers them to area food pantries and other services, such as Dorothy Day Food Pantry and the Micah's Mission kitchen.

Both services are vital to maintaining the food stocks necessary to feed the rising number of neighbors seeking assistance at the mission's kitchen and the pantry.

On average, the Dorothy Day Food Pantry serves about 350 households per week, and the Micah's Kitchen on average serves up to 350 meals per day.
