Churches United recognized as having a ‘high impact board’ for Giving Hearts Day

The recognition comes from Dakota Medical Foundation, following trainings to strengthen bonds between CU leadership and the board

Churches United has been recognized as having a high-impact board by Dakota Medical Foundation for Giving Hearts Day 2026.

The distinction comes after several months of training for Churches United CEO Pastor Devlyn Brooks and Churches United Board President Jess Spieker Ferden. The trainings were aimed at strengthening relationships between Churches United’s board and staff leadership.

The end goal is to create a stronger nonprofit that can fundraise efficiently and be a good steward of donated funds. With the board and CU leadership working side-by-side, it ensures that Churches United can best serve our neighbors in need.

Having successfully completed the training, Churches United is now officially recognized as a high-impact board. Of the more than 600 nonprofits and charities participating in Giving Hearts Day this year, only a small handful participate in the trainings and receive the distinction.

“This recognition means a lot to our organization,” Brooks said. “We have come a long way in the last year, and this recognition highlights the efforts we’ve made to strengthen Churches United and ensure its future in our community.”

Giving Hearts Day is Thursday, Feb. 12. Your gift this year helps feed, clothe and shelter our neighbors in need.

Churches United’s goal this year is to raise $1 million. By achieving that goal, Churches United will have a solid financial foundation for 2026 and 2027, allowing the organization to turn its attention to future planning.

“Thank you for your support this Giving Hearts Day,” Brooks said. “No matter what you give on Feb. 12, you are helping the 500 people we serve every single day.”
