Grand Farm delivers nearly 2,000 lbs of corn to the Dorothy Day Food Pantry

MOORHEAD, Minn. – A donation months in the making came to fruition Tuesday morning.

Grand Farm, an innovative agricultural network, dedicated nearly an acre of farmland to growing sweetcorn to donate to the Dorothy Day Food Pantry this spring.

“At the beginning of this year, there was the opportunity to work with Pastor Devlyn and his team to understand how we can better serve the community. The idea came up: could we plant some sweetcorn and then utilize that to help feed the community,” said Grand Farm Executive Director and Co-founder, Dr. William Aderholdt.

The harvest and delivery have been greatly anticipated by all involved.

“What we see here is not just something that is a feel-good story but an opportunity that’s come to life that our team is extremely excited about; that our community is extremely excited about and that only builds the story of what we have to come,” said Aderholdt.

United by the mission to provide nutritious food to the community, Churches United and Grand Farm’s work is far from over.

“We’ve only just donated 10 percent of what we have in the field. Our team is out there right now handpicking all this extra corn, and we’re going to continue dropping it off over the entire week,” said Aderholdt.

As of Wednesday morning, 1,725 lbs of corn have been donated to the Dorothy Day Food Pantry.

“Hopefully that scales up to 3,500. We’ll see… maybe a little bit more. We’re really excited about that, and again it’s just such a small effort to be able to make such a substantial contribution,” said Aderholdt.
