Kids help kids at Micah’s Mission
Children from Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes collected hygiene items and packed kits for young Micah’s Mission guests
Kids from Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes packed hygiene kits at Micah’s Mission on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
Whether near or far, one group of Detroit Lakes kids showed that distance isn’t a factor when caring for their neighbors in need.
Detroit Lakes-area youth visited Micah’s Mission to pack hygiene kits and write letters of encouragement to children experiencing homelessness on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
The group of kids from Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes spent the morning packing hygiene items they collected, including toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant and other necessities, which will then be distributed to Micah’s Mission guests. Hygiene items are among the most needed at the shelter year-round.
The group also got to tour Micah’s Mission and learn what it’s like to be a child facing housing insecurity. Between January and May of 2025, 463 adults and 91 children were sheltered at Micah’s Mission.
“What an outstanding group we had at Micah’s Mission today,” Churches United CEO Pastor Devlyn Brooks said. “Housing and food insecurity touch every community, and we are truly grateful that Trinity Lutheran Church took the time to help their neighbors and learn about our mission of providing safe shelter, stable housing, nutritious food and a path toward healing. Their efforts make a difference.”
