SNAP unaffected by partial government shutdown

SNAP benefits are fully funded through September 2026. State agencies continue to track the ongoing partial shutdown for impacts to Minnesotans.

The Federal government entered a partial shutdown going into February.

This shutdown does not impact the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), according to a release from the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF).

SNAP benefits are fully funded through September 2026.

This comes just months after the nation's longest-running federal government shutdown that ended last fall.

During that shutdown, over 440,000 Minnesotans felt the impact through delayed SNAP benefits, according to Second Harvest Heartland.

Minnesota state agencies will continue to monitor the ongoing partial shutdown, according to the DCYF, and update residents about its impact.

“While a partial government shutdown does not immediately impact DCYF programs, we are seeking guidance from our federal partners and evaluating available funding to prepare for the possibility of a longer-term shutdown,” the release said.

Currently the partial shutdown in Washington only impacts specific federal departments, The Hill reports, with fiscal year funding already approved for many federal programs like SNAP.
