Hosting a drive is a great way to help Churches United
Along with food items, hygiene products are always needed, and make for great items to consider collecting during a drive
Donation drives organized by local businesses and organizations help Churches United provide safe shelter, stable housing, nutritious food and a path toward healing.
Want to help Churches United, but not sure how? Outside of volunteering and donating, a great way to give is by hosting a drive!
Area businesses and organizations typically hold drives this time of year and during the holiday season, although drives are encouraged year-round. Among the most commonly collected items are canned food items, but we are grateful for and welcome any contribution.
For example, the Fargo-Moorhead Area Association of Realtors holds an annual coffee drive, which is underway now! The coffee they collect is then used at Micah’s Mission to provide hot coffee to our guests. We serve 500 guests a day with our kitchen, and this drive allows guests to warm up in the morning with a cup of coffee!
A couple of other area businesses are just about to start their drives. Baker Garden and Gift in Fargo will start their drive this Friday, Oct. 17, and Ignite Chiropractic in Fargo will kick off their Thanksgiving drive on Oct. 27. Food items collected from drives are taken to Dorothy Day Food Pantry and distributed to our neighbors facing food insecurity.
Our needs vary throughout the year; for example, during the colder winter months, blankets, thermal socks and hand and foot warmers are a constant need. In the spring and summertime, ponchos and sunscreen are greatly needed.
Though some needs do remain constant throughout the year, particularly one-time use or consumable items. We consistently need hygiene products such as shampoo, toothpaste and feminine hygiene products, to name a few. If you’re not sure what to collect, hygiene items are a great starting point.
Starting a drive for Churches United is simple! Reach out to Churches United Volunteer and Donations Coordinator Keely, keelyh@churches-united.org, to let her know about your drive and what you plan to collect. She can also answer any questions you have or give suggestions on what to collect.
Churches United is grateful to all the area businesses and organizations that host these drives. Your contributions help us provide safe shelter, stable housing, nutritious food and a path toward healing.
If you decide to host a food drive, feel free to use this flier to market the event!
