Soup, Sips and Support: Gourmet Soup Kitchen Returns!

Chris Helmick, Moorhead’s Chief of Police, chats with attendees at the 2025 Gourmet Soup Kitchen fundraiser.

What’s better than a warm bowl of soup on a crisp fall day?

Why is it a selection of homemade soups paired with games, live music, silent auctions, and good company, of course! All in support of a great cause.

Churches United’s annual Gourmet Soup Kitchen event is back and bigger than ever!

This fundraising event will run from 5 – 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 29th inside Dakota Medical Foundation at 4321 20th Ave s, Fargo. Tickets can be purchased online.

As always, the heart of this event is our huge selection of soups: each prepared by local businesses, organizations, and individuals that you know and love.

Returning challengers Chris Helmick and Addie are putting down their respective chief-of-police and nonprofit leader hats to once again don a chef’s cap and compete for the coveted ‘Best Soup’ prize.

They face a crowd of new chefs this year, including Minnesota State University President Tim Downs, who is bringing the heat with his award-winning Oktoberfest chili.

With so many great chefs stepping up to the soup pot, we wish them all happy cooking and the best of luck!

Attendees will get the chance to try every soup – paired with a selection of locally baked breads – and, ultimately, vote to decide which soup reigns supreme.

Throughout the evening there will be a DJ, whiskey and bourbon silent auction, and both a wine pull and a gift card pull. This event is 18+ and attendees are encouraged to have cash-on-hand.

People who order a limited-edition Gourmet Soup Kitchen 2026 t-shirt will be able to pick their shirt up at the event. If you can’t wait, the shirts will be available to pick up after October 27 at Micah’s Mission, 1901 1st Ave N, Moorhead.

There will also be a limited number of shirts available to purchase during the event!

Attendees can bid on raffle items throughout the night: we have a pair of electric bikes up for grabs for the adventure-loving bidder!

Pastor Devlyn Brooks, CEO of Churches United, will spread cheer all evening before announcing the winners and highlighting how your support helps Churches United change lives in our community through shelter, housing, and food supports.

He also has one surprise saved for the event that you’ll have to attend in person if you want to be among the first to know!
